My journey with Australian Shepherds began in the 1980s, a time when they were solely Stock Dog and ASCA registered. From the start, I immersed myself in obedience and herding, captivated by the breed’s agility and intelligence.
To truly excel, an Aussie needed reach, drive, and the agility to turn on a dime—qualities I meticulously studied in their structure and movement. When I transitioned to the conformation ring, I sought out dogs that could seamlessly shine both in the show ring and the field.
I had the privilege of being mentored by Frank Baylis of Bayshore Kennel and Farms, a name synonymous with exceptional movement and type. Under his guidance, we bred stunning champions and top-winning dogs that garnered accolades both in the US and overseas.
For me, soundness in structure and temperament, along with maintaining breed type and rigorous health clearances, are the cornerstones of responsible breeding.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the pleasure of showcasing not only my Australian Shepherds but also a diverse range of breeds, including Golden Retrievers, Chinese Crested, Yorkshire Terriers, and American Hairless Terriers.
My quest for the perfect Miniature American Shepherd concluded in 2018 with the acquisition of a remarkable dog from TwoJ’s Kennel. She embodied everything I had hoped for in a Mini, making the search well worth the wait.
Today, while I no longer handle other dogs, my passion for showing my own remains undiminished. There is immense joy in having a dog I’m proud of at the end of the lead, especially one that excels in the conformation ring and can effortlessly transition to the field, dock, barn, and beyond.
This versatility and zest for life are what make these breeds truly special, and it’s an honor to be part of their journey.
